Out with the old and in with the new! The old facebook pixels will be replaced by the new before you know it, and I am here to help you with your transition. A few tips on how to use the new facebook pixel will help to ease the stress of this switch.
step 1: Know The Transition Deadlines
If you’re not sure what the difference is between the new and old facebook pixels, check out my previous blog post. First off, knowing deadlines is crucial for a smooth transition from old to new. Facebook will cut off support for old conversion pixels by October 15th of 2016. Additionally, once February 15, 2017 hits, Facebook will disable the old pixels completely. That said, it’s extremely important that you upgrade by this deadline. You will risk the functionality of your ad campaign otherwise.
Step 2: Install the New Pixels
Now that you know the dates, let’s learn how to actually install these new pixels.Go to ads manager and click the facebook pixels tab –> create new pixel. Then Facebook will provide you with a new code for your site containing the new pixel. Once you copy this new piece of code, you want to insert it on all your webpages via WordPress’ headers and footers.
Step 3: Create Conversions
After you do this, you will want to create your conversions. To do this go to assets –> pixels –> create conversions. You can choose to create either custom conversions or standard events, depending on your intended use. Step 4: Ad Transitions
Then you will also want to transition all your ads. To do so go to ads manager, click edit ad, and under pixel tracking select “track all conversions through Facebook pixel”.
STEP 5: Remove Old Pixels
Once the ad transitions are done, simply do a sweep of your webpages and make sure you have removed all the old Facebook conversion pixels.
Step 6: Reporting
Lastly, rest assured that all your old data will still be stored once you implement the new pixels. The old data will simply be stored in different columns than before, so when reviewing this information make sure to change the columns in your analytics.
